Moses Gunn Collective

May 06, 2017

We did a kooky little interview with a lovely five piece band called Moses Gunn Collective, a psychedelic rock band from Brisbane .If you haven't already checked them out, firstly; you're missing out and secondly; do it now with the link below.

Interview Q&A's

What inspired you to start making music? I was always writing stories and making art as a kid, when I got a little older and started playing the guitar I put all my energy into writing music and haven't really stopped. I was lucky to find these lovely people who were also possessed and we all came together. I think everyone in the band is just naturally driven to create and music is how we like to do it.

Where do you get your inspiration from for the the music you make? New bands. Old bands. Breakfast. Our brains. Birds. Weird people. Books. Drugs. Abstinence. Holidays. The natural world. Dancing. Good dreams. Spooky dreams. Nice sheets. Everything I suppose.

What was the first gig you ever played? Our first real run of shows were around five years ago at The Troubadour (now Black Bear Lodge) in the valley, Brisbane. One of the owners at the time, Jamie Trevaskis, was really good to us and encouraged us to keep making music. Thanks Jamie xx

What do you see yourselves doing with your music in the future? We'd just like to keep making weird albums and travelling around playing shows. Seeing some more of the world would be real nice.

What has been your favourite show played so far? Awwwe sheeit I dunno! The crowd at Jungle Love is pretty hard to top - there's just something in the water out there.

Are there any particular musicians or bands that you get inspiration from? Our faves are pretty diverse and it changes so much but here's a few:

  • Lee Hazlewood & Nancy Sinatra
  • Connan Mockasin
  • Mazzy Star
  • Nicholas Jaar
  • Kendrick Lamar Oh shit I made a rhyme!

What was the last good idea you had? To take a bath.

What is your usual form of procrastination? Sniffing around the garden.

Where do you go or what do you do when you need inspiration? The garden, or just outside somewhere pleasant.

What is your favourite single that you've released so far? Hmmm I think New Romantic Novocaine is probs my personal fave.
